Center Street Stormwater Infrastructure Improvements Project

This project is being funded by the South Carolina Infrastructure Investment Program (SCIIP), which is administered by the SC Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) and funded by State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).



 

  • Improve drainage and reduce flooding.
  • Increase the capacity and longevity of the stormwater system.
  • Beautification of Center Street.
  • Create a model for resilient drainage infrastructure for coastal communities.
  • Improve system response to storm events. 
  • Adjusted traffic patterns on Center Street.
  • Adjusted pedestrian walkways.
  • Access to Center Street businesses will look different.
  • Removal of 4 parallel parking spots on Center St for green infrastructure installation.
  • Addition of 39 parallel parking spots within the project area.
  • Tree removal and replanting.
  • Temporary Lighting/signs.

August – November 2025

Utility Improvements on Center Street (Outbound Side).


December – March 2026

Utility Improvements on Center Street (Inbound Side).

 The schedule may be adjusted for unforeseen conflicts.

UPDATE

-Contractor has crossed E. Cooper working on the East Side of Center Street between Cooper and Ashley now. 

-Concurrently working on pervious parking spaces on both sides of Center Street between Indian and Hudson.

-Soon to be installing storm water pipe on the West side of Center Street between W. Hudson and W. Cooper once the water main conflict is mitigated in that area.

-Steps coming soon will be the reinstallation of palmetto trees, installations of raingardens, and the reinstallation of engraved and plain bricks on the West side of Center Street between W. Cooper and W. Erie.
