Folly Beach Police Department
The Folly Beach Police Department has an authorized strength of 21 sworn officers. Two of our officers are assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division (CID), and two officers are assigned to the Traffic Unit. One officer is assigned to the Traffic / Beach Unit, one officer is assigned to the Marine and Beach Unit, which has (12) non-sworn beach patrol officers. Some members of the Police Department are dual-certified to assist the fire department, although this certification is not mandatory.
The Folly Beach Police Department recently won the agency of the year award.
Our officers are actively involved in the community and provide exceptional service through rigorous training and accountability. Their responsibilities encompass traffic management, collision investigation, forensic analysis, and maritime operations.
Public Safety runs three vessels for our Marine Patrol/Rescue Team. This team is made up of members of both Police and Fire Divisions and run by a Corporal. Our vessels run approximately 40-50 rescues annually. All members are NASBLA certified emergency boat operators or deck hands and are authorized to enforce SC boating laws by SC DNR.Our vessels include Marine 1101 (23′ Parker), Marine 1102 (24′ Carolina Skiff), and Marine 1103 (a Yamaha Jet Ski). Our Marine Rescue Launch site is located at 97 Center Street.
Our members of Beach Patrol are also authorized to issue City Ordinance Violations throughout the community and primarily on the Beach Front. We work year-round, and up-staff in the spring and summer months.
