Folly Beach Police Department
The Folly Beach Department of Public Safety has an authorized strength of 30 Public Safety Officers (10 of which are assigned to the Firehouse as either shift Captains or Fire PSO’s), 2 Part time Police Officers, and 12 part time Beach Patrol/Ordinance Officers. Two of our officers are assigned to our criminal investigations division (CID). 2 Officers assigned to Beach and Marine Unit, and 2 Officers assigned to a Traffic Unit. A large majority of our staff carries certifications in multiple disciplines (Police, Fire, EMS) and quite a few have all 3.
Public Safety runs three vessels for our Marine Patrol/Rescue Team. This team is made up of members of both Police and Fire Divisions and run by a Corporal. Our vessels run approximately 40-50 rescues annually. All members are NASBLA certified emergency boat operators or deck hands and are authorized to enforce SC boating laws by SC DNR.Our vessels include Marine 1101 (23′ Parker), Marine 1102 (24′ Carolina Skiff), and Marine 1103 (a Yamaha Jet Ski). Our Marine Rescue Launch site is located at 97 Center Street.
Our members of Beach Patrol are also authorized to issue City Ordinance Violations throughout the community and primarily on the Beach Front. We work year-round, and up-staff in the spring and summer months.
