WHEN AND HOW APPOINTED
Governed by Folly Code Section 33.046
(A) The Commission shall consist of nine members. The City Council, in the appointment of Planning Commission members, shall consider their professional expertise, knowledge of the community and concern for the future welfare of the total community and its citizens. Members of the Commission shall represent a broad cross section of the interests and concerns within the jurisdiction.
(1) Six members shall be appointed individually by members of City Council upon their election and shall serve four year terms concurrent with the Council member who appointed them.
(2) Two members shall be appointed by Council at large in the year following a Mayoral election and shall serve four year terms.
(3) One member shall be appointed by the Mayor upon election and shall serve a term of four years.
(4) The Mayor and City Council shall make every effort to make the appointments on or before June 1 of each year.
(5)Members shall serve until their successors are appointed and qualified. No member of the Planning Commission shall be the holder of an elected public office in the city or county.
(B) In the event that a Council member or Mayor vacates his or her seat on Council, then the term of the Planning Commission member appointed by that person shall end.
(1) The Planning Commission member shall continue to serve until the first Council meeting where the new Council member or Mayor shall appoint his or her successor.
(2) All members of the Planning Commission shall be registered voters or property owners of the city. The maximum number of non-registered voters shall be two.
(C) If a vacancy in the membership of the Planning Commission occurs for any reason, the unexpired term of that member shall be filled in the same manner as the original appointment.
(D) The Chair and Vice-Chair of the Planning Commission shall be appointed annually by the Planning Commission. The appointments shall be made no later than July 1 of each year.”

Members of the Commission shall represent a broad cross section of the interests and concerns within the jurisdiction.
All members of the Planning Commission shall be registered voters or property owners of the city. The maximum number of non-registered voters shall be two.
PURPOSE
The Planning Commission shall have all duties, functions and responsibilities as set forth in the Comprehensive Planning Enabling Act of 1994, S.C. Code §§ 6-29-310 et seq., which includes, but is not limited to the undertaking of a continuing planning program for the physical, social, and economic growth, development, and redevelopment of the area within its jurisdiction.
