Staff Liaison/Clerk
WHEN AND HOW APPOINTED
Three members. The City Council shall appoint the members to the Municipal Election Commission. Each Commission Member shall serve a six-year staggered term. The first Commission Member appointed shall be for a term of six years; the second one appointed shall be for a term of four years; and the third one for a term of two years; thereafter, each term shall be for a period of six years. The Commission Members shall continue in office until their successors are appointed and qualified. City Council may reappoint the same members as their terms expire or may appoint new members. Appointments shall be made no later than June 1 of the year in which the term expires.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Municipal Election Commission consists of three residents and registered voters of the municipality. Each member must continue to be a registered voter of the municipality throughout the appointment.
STAFF LIAISON
Municipal Clerk (per ordinance).
PURPOSE
All municipal elections shall be conducted by the Municipal Election Commission.
The Municipal Election Commission shall:
(1) Publish election notices.
(2) Appoint and train clerks and poll managers.
(3) Provide information to the county election commission for preparing voting machines and equipment.
(4) Distribute ballots.
(5) Oversee ballot tabulation.
(6) Certify candidates and election results.
(7) Hear protests.
