Sea Turtle Hatchlings Emerge From Their Nest
August 07, 2022
Over the weekend, a group of Loggerhead sea turtles hatched from their nest on Folly Beach.
Folly Beach Turtle Watch recorded the newborn sea turtles as they traveled down the sand and into the ocean. The nest hatched after 50 days.
The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration considers Loggerhead sea turtles to be an endangered species. According to the City of Folly Beach, sea turtle nesting season usually occurs from May 1 to October 31. They advise beachgoers to avoid using lights on the beach in an effort to prevent the turtles from becoming disoriented.
