The City of Folly Beach is accepting applications for the position Part-Time Public Safety Dispatcher. Police and Fire emergency dispatch experience and NCIC certified preferred. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, possess a high school diploma and clear an extensive background check, polygraph, fit for duty medical exam and psychological evaluation. Medical and psychological testing will be scheduled once the conditional offer of employment is accepted by the applicant. Applicants will be responsible for coordinating police and fire response to calls or emergencies and being the first point of contact for the public when contacting public safety. JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:

- Assist Public Safety with accessing criminal records and driving records
EXPERIENCE:

Full time Public Safety Officer
The City of Folly Beach is a small island located nine miles southeast of Charleston SC. There are approximately 2500 year-round residents with an abundance of visitors during our warm months. Currently, our Public Safety Department is accepting applications for the position of Full Time Police Officers. Successful applicants will be required to pass a physical, psychological test, polygraph test and extensive background check. South Carolina LE1 certified candidates preferred. Officers certified in other states are also encouraged to apply. Other qualification requirements include the following: must have attained the age of 21, possession of a high school diploma or GED, US Citizenship, and no convictions for domestic batteries or any crimes that include the use of a firearm. The City offers a full benefit package to include health, dental and long-term disability insurance paid by the City. Vision, dental plus, supplemental ltd and optional life are also available for employees to fund. Starting Salary for SC LE1 certified applicants is $60,047.27 including $3,422.36 for 11 paid holidays. Certification stipend bonuses are available for up to $14,250 annually for additional certifications possessed or obtained during employment i.e firefighter, EMS, Instructor, water rescue, DRE, etc. Overtime opportunities available upon completion of field training. The City of Folly Beach is accepting applications for part-time/seasonal Beach Patrol Officer positions ($18 an hour). Successful candidates will assist certified Police Officers with the enforcement of various City ordinances, regulations, and other beach-related codes. Beach Patrol Officer will also assist beachgoers with questions, beach repair, cleanliness, and the overall safety of our residents and visitors on our beaches. The position offers an opportunity to those interested in law enforcement or law studies careers. Beach Patrol Officer shall be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The ideal candidate shall have the ability to work in an outdoor low stressful summer environment. Applicants must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
Duties:
- Operate a Side-by-Side & ATV on the roadway and beach
- Recognizing and enforcing City ordinances and regulations
- Testifies in court as necessary
- Refers to policy and procedures manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / ordinances / regulations
- Maintain department equipment
- Properly communicate radio transmissions
- Respond to animal control calls
- Assist Police Officers with other duties
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be over the age of 18 years old
- Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license
- Must pass a background investigation and drug screening
- No experience necessary
Compensation:
$18 per hour.
Participation in the SC retirement system.
