Affordable Housing

The Charleston region, like the rest of the country, has experienced steep increases in the cost of living, resulting in housing that is often not affordable for the local workforce.

Affordable housing--also known as attainable housing, workforce housing, or long-term housing--can be addressed by local governments multiple ways.

The city of Folly Beach is exploring options to address affordable housing locally. The city’s Planning Commission is asking for residents to share their opinions on whether affordable housing is a problem in the city and if so, how the city should address the issue. You can share your comments three ways.

  1. Fill out the survey below,
  2. Email zoning@follybeach.gov, or
  3. Attend the next Planning Commission meeting on January 6, at 7 p.m. in city council chambers (21 Center Street) to offer comments in person.
